An Acoustic Evening with Matisyahu

It was a magical night as a sold out crowd gathered to witness an amazing acoustic performance at the Colony Theater in Miami Beach, FL. by none other than Matisyahu. The stage was set with 2 guitarists and a vocalist, but the sounds filled every inch of the room. Matisyahu’s reggae inspired sound is one that is uniquely his own, which is why in a world with a million reggae bands this Jewish American beatboxer has been able to maintain a strong following.

The band played all of the crowd favorites like, “King Without a Crown” , “One Day” and my personal favorite song of his, “I Will Be light”. Most of the songs began in a recognizable way, then softly switched to an improvised sound, and topped off with Matisyahu beatboxing over the guitars. Extremely impressive to hear three people sound like an entire band with every available instrument.

Fatherhood is something that is obviously quite personal and important for Matisyahu. Along with his band mates, was a fourth member on stage, one of his five sons. In the middle of a song, his son ran onto the stage and asked his father if he could borrow a towel that was on the floor next to him so he could keep warm while laying on a row of chairs behind the band. The crowd lost it.

As the night was coming to an end, Matisyahu stated, “We’re just going to stay on stage for the encore and save everyone the trouble of us leaving and coming back” the crowd had a laugh and then they finished off their set with two more songs.

Overall, An Acoustic Evening with Matisyahu was a success and is a show I would definitely recommend everyone catch if they happen to stop in your city.
