With an increasing divide of todays Hip Hop music and culture, Legacy looks to lead by example with his latest project yet, “Back to The Basics”. Accompanied by long time friend and South Florida legend, Dj Heron, the two have managed to successfully create a feeling that can only be described as… Nostalgia.
Reminiscent of Ice Cube’s single “Jackin’ for Beats”, released almost 26 years ago today, “Back to the basics” attempts to recreate a similar tone. Moving through an array of die hard classics that are sure to identify with the fans, the seemingly effortless transition from instrumental to instrumental exemplifies the long lost art of Turntableism.
The bedrock of contemporary “Rap Music” was founded by the the Dj and later strengthened by his relationship with the MC. From backyard boogies to House parties and jams, the distinct sound of a needle hitting vinyl to the breath control needed to “Move the Crowd”, the authenticity of Hip Hop’s “Raw and Uncut” style is what pushed the music genre into its modern day commercial status.
Imagine a time when words held more value than a pocket book, when the thought you put behind your lyrics mattered more than the amount of money you put in your bank. Before Hip Hop was used as a marketing tool and Social Media determined your worth. Before “Auto Tune” made everyone a singer and commercialized “Ringtone Rappers” overwhelmed the air waves. At one point Hip Hop was more than just a “Dope Beat” and a “Catchy Hook”… Hip Hop was Art.
Lets Bring it Back to the Basics…
